Saving One

We sing this song often at church.  This song to me is joy of salvation...

Saving One

What mercy was revealed
What selflessness and peace
My fate was surely sealed
Until He rescued me
His pardon for my sin
His bounty for my need
From slavery and shame
I am redeemed

And Heaven can't contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
No fear can hold me down
Nor darkness steal my joy
For blood has been poured out
The enemy destroyed
Death could not hold Him down
The cross was not enough
To steal away His throne
For He is God

And Heaven can't contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved

And Heaven can't contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name

They will be saved
They will be saved

I am your servant

Psalm 116:16  O LORD, truly I am your your servant;...You have freed me from my chains.
As I was thinking about this verse I started to think about the movies where you see this acted out.  Like in the movie The Count of Monte Cristo when the main character finds himself in the midst a band of thieves and the leader tells him that the way he can keep his life is by fighting and killing one of there members that they had tied up and blind folded and were planning on killing him for wrong he had done.  So during the fight the main character wins the fight and is in position for the kill but decides to spare him.  And the man he spared tells him he is now his servant.

Three verses before, the psalmist says "I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD".(vs 13)  My study bible says this of this verse- During Hebrew religious ceremonies, a cup of wine was lift to God as expression of thanksgiving.  The writer celebrates  God's goodness in saving him and publicly acknowledges his gratitude. -The Quest Study Bible

LORD you have freed me from my chains and I will lift up the cup of salvation and truly be your servant who calls on the name of the LORD. How I desire for this to be ingrained in my heart and overflow to my life.  And be an ingredient to joy of my salvation.

Never taken

As I continue to seek the Lord on this path to restore the joy of my salvation...today I was meditating on the Lord seeking Him and bringing those heavy burdens at His feet I was reminded that my salvation will never be taken from me!  As pain, suffering and disappointments in our lives rob us of joy we so desperately seek after an need.  Salvation is always and forever and it won't return void in anyway.  That what happened on the cross has been done as Jesus said "it is finished".  Victory. Freedom!
But why is it so hard to just be content and joyful in salvation, that it has been finished and I am free. I have so many theories but I don't want to get into that.
It's been very recent the Lord telling me focus on joy of my salvation.  But I feel that he was stirring something in my heart back in the fall when I served in our church's Introducing God course.  I was reminded of God's story and His plan and purpose of redemption.  Something that I had been thankful for but not living it.  I feel that we get in a state of our spiritual growth where we get a little distracted or maybe comfortable that we lose sight of what has been done for us already.  That His grace is enough.
Today I read a small book I have been using as decoration in my family room because it has beautiful pictures of crosses.  "The Cross"  by Max Lucado.   And this really spoke to me..."His final pain was for you.  His final passion was you.  Before he went to the cross, Jesus went to the Garden.  And when he spoke with his father you were in the prayer.....God could not turn his back on you.  he couldn't because he saw you  and one look at you was all it took to convince him.  Right there in the middle of a world that isn't fair.  he saw you cast into a river of life you did not request.  He saw you betrayed by those you love.  He saw you with a body that gets sick and a heart that grows weak....He saw you in your own Garden of Gethsemane-and he did not want you to be alone....On the eve of the cross, Jesus made the decision.  He would rather go to hell for you than heaven without you."

Scripture:  Isaiah 12:2-4
2 Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense
   he has become my salvation.”
3 With joy you will draw water
  from the wells of salvation.

4 In that day you will say:
   “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.

Journey to Restore the Joy of my Salvation

I have been through some tough times and battles the last three years of my life.  I have found myself so weary and bruised by unrelenting storms.  But before I go on I want to make it clear even though I am weary the Lord God has been by my side and been my strength to keep me standing.
The past few months the Lord has been echoing to me "Joy of my Salvation".  I have been so worn down by circumstances that pain and suffering has shadowed my joy.  I also placed my joy on life, family, friends and health.  I asked the Lord to restore joy in my salvation.  I have lost site of the most important thing in my life...that I have been rescued from spiritual death, no longer separated from my maker who loves me and spared from paying a debt that could be only paid by death.
So on this journey the Lord has for me to restore my Joy in my salvation (salvation through Jesus Christ) I thought to blog scripture, quotes and thoughts that are helping me rediscover the joy of the salvation that was offered to me and I accepted.

Today 1.11.11

Restore  to me the joy of my salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:12

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed.  Isaiah 53:5
